The competition is open to both UK and international artists, creating paintings using any water based medium (including, but not limited to, acrylics, gouache or inks).

Works entered must:

  1. Have been carried out in the last three years ie dated 2017 or later
  2. Be the sole and original work of the entrant
  3. Be the entrant’s original composition
  4. Have a maximum size of work, in its largest dimension, including frame, is 122 cm

All works shortlisted and submitted for final exhibition must:

  1. Be securely framed and behind glass (where possible – both framed and unframed works are entered at the artists own risk). Metal, plastic or clip frames will not be allowed*
  2. Be available until the end of February 2021 if selected for exhibition

*Please note: Works accepted for the final exhibition should not have any fixings on the back so they cannot cause damage to other works.


The responsibility for damage or loss, however caused, is the responsibility of the artist. If selected for the final exhibition and tour, artists are advised to arrange suitable insurance against damage or theft while on exhibition or in transit.


A commission of 40% + VAT on sales and introductions as a result of the exhibition and tour or online will be levied.


Please note that artists must check that they are eligible for specific prizes. The Young Artist Prize is only awarded to an artist 25 or under on as of 24 September 2020.
